Magpie Bay

© Marc Loiselle, ACSL
The town’s charm is not immediately apparent from Route 138. Its real splendour will however unfold before you once you take the panoramic road that cuts through the town.

The view from the vicinity of the small church is remarkable. A rest area for passers-by and an outlook can be found in the haven that once sheltered the fishing boats. The location is perfect for watching marine mammals and birds. Hiking enthusiasts can enjoy various trails.

The Magpie river is a few kilometres from town. River rafters flock to it because of its numerous rapids. The river current is actually strong enough to have warranted the construction of a mini hydroelectric power plant, which has been recently upgraded. Take the time to hike to the outlook, where you can clearly admire the new power plant, widely considered a testament to human ingenuity.
