The only town on the legendary Anticosti island, Port-Menier was established in 1899 by the French industrialist Henri Menier. Stroll along Cap-Blanc street and you’ll see evidence of that bygone era when Menier reigned supreme on “his island.” Menier is also the reason why deer populate the vast territory.
Today, Port-Menier welcomes numerous visitors every year, who come for the hunting and fishing outfitter services that operate on the island. The town thrives on tourism.
Thanks to the presence of Sépaq Anticosti, which manages the Anticosti national park, the island’s many outfitters and the town’s various initiatives, the Anticosti tourism product is becoming increasingly popular, even internationally.
A stay in Port-Menier is the essence of “getting away,” and there’s no other place like it.
